Theories for adding extended flavor text:

When clicking (examining) an item, some flavor text can be shown. But, sometimes you want to show another paragraph or so, at the players convenience. Thus, take an approach so:

When an item is examined, it shows the standard info about it, with no flavor text. If the item has a field for extended information, a message is printed that indicates this. If the player examines the time again, without issuing any other commands in the meantime, the flavor text is printed, instead of the regular attribute-based description.

This can be extended further like so:

  • First click: item attributes
  • Second click: textual item description and flavor text
  • Third click: lore, detailed description, or other extended flavor text.

First click: That is a knightly sword of deflection. It is made of steel and leather. Weight 5, Dam 7, Speed 4, AC +2. It is not enchanted.

Second click: The knightly sword (or arming sword) is a simple, straight, double edged sword. Typically made of steel, it is light enough to be wielded with one hand, but stout enough to be issued to a common soldier with only basic training.

Third click: This sword was obviously crafted by a skilled swordsmith. The balance is perfect, the edge is hard, and the grill feels like it was made just for your hand. As a result, it feels like it's easier than usual to party and deflect your enemies attacks, though you can't be sure if it's the excellent craftsmanship, or if there's magic at work.
